Many people agree that cats are the best pets available. To give your cat a happy and healthy life, you owe it to your pet to find out all you can about taking care of him properly. Carefully read over this article to learn some excellent tips on raising a cat successfully.

Prevent your cats from playing with drapery cords. Cats love to play with hanging cords and this poses the threat of your cat hurting themselves or becoming entangled. This could really hurt or possibly kill them. To stop this from happening, pin your drapes and hide them out of sight.

Don’t try using dog food or products for your cat. If you try to use products meant for dogs, it can make your cat sick, or even kill him. This is particularly true when it comes to flea treatments. Your cat can die if you use a dog flea product on it. After getting the dog treated, keep the cat away for many hours.

Deter cats from shocking themselves on electrical wires by spraying them with bitter apple. Cats who love to chew need to be kept away from cords. You can bundle loose cords together and place them inside paper towel rolls. Put your electronics away so your cat is not tempted to chew on the cords.

You may want to have a microchip put into your car. Indoor cats could run out your door or jump out the window. A collar with tags increases your chances of getting your cat back if it gets lost but it can also be a risk, for instance if it gets snagged in some branches. A teeny microchip can hold your contact information. Almost every vet and shelter has a scanner these days, and they can retrieve your contact information should they find your pet.

Don’t allow your cat become bored. Just like dogs, cats need playtime and physical exercise, too. Unfortunately, lots of people who own cats neglect this. Bored cats are more prone to depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, as well as many other behavioral issues. Provide your cats with the toys and space it needs. Give them a cat tree to play with.

Most cats prefer to be mostly nocturnal. The result is that they active while you’re sleeping. If your cats keep you up late at night, you should close the bedroom door. This can keep them from waking you up at night and from pouncing on feet under the blankets.

As was mentioned in the opening paragraph of this article, cats make great pets. Keeping your cat happy and healthy means learning as much as you can about cat care. Read through this article a couple of times to soak up all of the info it contains. Your cat will love you more for this!
