Hearing your cat purr is a very relaxing sound. This can relax you as well as the cat. That’s why it’s best to keep your cat happy by properly caring for him. This article will provide some tips for you to keep your cat happy and purring.

Drape cords should be kept distant from cats. If your cat plays with looped drape cords, they could get caught around its neck, which presents a suffocation hazard. This accident could trap or injure your cat, or even be fatal. Hide the cords for safety sake.

Cats love to get into tight, small spaces. If your cat gets caught on something wearing a traditional collar they could end up hurting their neck trying to break free. A breakaway collar let’s go if pulled on tightly. This can save all “nine” of your cat’s lives.

If you’d like to make an elderly cat’s bed more comfy, stick a heated tile beneath its bed. You should heat a terra cotta tile with your oven, at about 200 degrees, for around fifteen minutes. Put the tile inside a towel and place it under the cat’s bedding. If necessary, change this out every few hours.

Don’t use items on a cat that are meant for a dog. Cats will react very negatively to any products intended for dogs. Flea products are a prime example. Your cat can die if you use a dog flea product on it. If you treat your dog for fleas, make sure you keep the cat away for several hours following the application.

Cats can be great pets for children, but some younger children may be a bit too rough with cats. Show your kids the proper way to handle cats. Teach them what are appropriate activities and how to gently touch it. A cat’s bones can be quite fragile and they need to be treated gently.

Try to figure out why your cat meows. You need to learn what their meows mean. She could be signaling that she is hungry, or she might want to go outside. When you understand what each type of behavior indicates, you can improve your relationship.

Is your home also the home of both a dog and cat? Understand that dogs will usually eat cat’s food if they can. Feed your pets in different areas of the house, and monitor them while they eat. In doing so, you prevent spats and spitting over competition for water.

Happy cats make happy owners; therefore, all cat owners should ensure they are doing all they can to properly care for their pet. They are beautiful animals, and you can care for them much easier if you use the tips here. Use these tips to boost your cat’s purring.
