Tried And True Ways Of Effective Puppy Training

By Jack Wall  Posted on March 13, 2017 In Pet Advice Tagged bad behavior

Way to go! Okay, but now what? Good training will leave you and your pooch feeling happier. This article has lots of helpful advice about training your dog.

Timing is crucial when you train a dog, so you need to spend an adequate amount of time training them, but not too much. Shorter training sessions are better at the beginning of your program. When your dog loses interest, quit for the day.

A healthy diet is important to the health and well-being of your dog. A bad diet is unhealthy for dogs for many reasons. Without proper nutrition, your dog’s general health will suffer and there may also be direct effects on behavior. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.

You have to be consistent with the crate training of your new puppy. As soon as you let your dog out of the crate, take him to his potty location. This will teach your dog that he can wait until he gets out of the crate to relieve himself.

Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. First, make sure the dog is in a laying position. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog’s head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. When he rolls over, you should say “roll over,” and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. Have patience since your dog may not get the trick quickly. However, once he does, he’ll be the center of attention at the dog park.

It’s essential that you understand that you must be firm with your dog when you are in training mode. That said, love should prevail and yelling should never occur. You will be best friends with your dog.

You can keep a dog from barking by teaching it an order that means they should be silent. Any time the animal starts to bark, get its attention by showing him a tasty dog treat. Forcefully, speak the command until your pet ceases barking. Then, you can reward it with a treat. By repeating this, the dog learns that silence brings treats.

You can rest assured that when you train your puppy, they may have an accident in the house. It’s important to immediately clean up the accident to make your training more effective. You pet will smell the urine and try to urinate there again. A pet shop in your area will carry products specifically for this problem.

Never reward bad behavior with the intent of quickly ending a certain behavior. This is sure to send the message that the dog has free reign and can control you. Refrain from giving your dog treats for bad behavior, as this reinforces something negative.

Both dogs and owners are happy when the dog is well-trained. The guidelines in this article are an excellent starting point for training your dog.
