Some people shy away from training their own dog for fear that it will be too hard. Not understanding how to do it properly can cause uncertainty in novice owners. The key to training dogs is that you have to expand your knowledge on methods and ways you can train your dogs to know how to properly train them. Verbal corrections must be sharp and direct. Do not rant on at length to your dog telling them how they were bad. Just say no and direct them on what it is you desire for them to do. Also speak with authority so they understand you mean business.

By giving your dog the proper amount of rewards, you’ll have an easier time training. Treats are great to give your dog when he does something good, but timing is very important when doing so. Unless you administer praise and treats as soon as the dog exhibits the desired behavior, he will not be able to connect the behavior to the treat.

A puppy should have chew toys to get him through the teething pains. Keep other things out of his reach. Replace the tasty item you do not want chewed with a designated chew toy. If your puppy needs to chew because he is teething, try a frozen washcloth.

You need to teach your puppy how to leave an item alone with a simple command such as “leave it.” This command is a great way to avoid damaging furniture or eating dangerous things.

If your pet is prone to jumping onto your lap, you should gently squeeze his paws after he does so. This communicates that the behavior is unacceptable and should be avoided. This will not harm your dog if done gently, but it will be uncomfortable. This will help them to stop this action immediately.

You need to give your dog some exercise every day. Taking care to see that the dog exercises enough makes their training work go more smoothly and reinforces the importance of good behavior at all times. When your dog is exercised, he is also happy.

To make sure your dog’s behavior stays good, you should continue training him throughout its life. You should not stop training your dog at the end of their puppy stage. By reinforcing good behavior, dog’s will become well-behaved.

Consistency is key when training a dog. Make sure that others are using similar commands if they are training your dog. Your dog will learn better if the commands are ones he is familiar with.

If you teach your dog the right way to act at the beginning you will have a good dog. Trying to change bad behaviors after the fact is far more difficult than teaching them the good ones right away. If your goal is to keep the dog from begging for table scraps, it is advisable to never give him any table scraps to begin with.

If you’re leash-training a puppy, the initial step needs to be putting a collar on them when you play with them. You should start your dog off by wearing a collar from the time they are puppy, they will not think that y9ou are going to put them on a leash this way.
