Tips To Being A Great Dog Owner

By Jack Wall  Posted on January 6, 2017 In Pet Advice Tagged real bones

Do you have a dog in your house currently, or did you own one previously? If you answered yes, then you know how great it can be to own a dog. That said, just like all aspects of life, knowledge is key. You will find plenty of excellent advice about owning a dog in this article.

Hugs are great, but steer clear of kisses. A dog has a very filthy mouth. Keep in mind that dogs drink from toilet bowls and eat whatever is on the ground. It saying that the dog’s mouth is much cleaner than a human’s is folklore. This statement is most definitely not true.

Avoid letting your dog walk without a leash outside of your property, regardless of how well he behaves. There are quite a few things that could cause your dog to run off unexpectedly. It is your job to keep your dog safe, and to keep him from harming anyone else or causing anyone problems.

Talk with your vet about the foods you should feed your dog. In some cases, your pet may not be able to consume certain food brands without becoming nauseous. Never give your dog any food you are not sure of.

Don’t give your dog real bones. Real bones can chip and fragments may become lodged in their mouths or digestive tract. Rawhide is proven healthy and great for teeth as well, but don’t be tempted to share that T-bone, no matter what kind of eyes your dog gives you.

If your dog spends time outside, he should have a good house. You can purchase one or build one yourself if you are handy. Exposure to extreme weather for long periods can cause health issues, particularly if the dog’s feet get wet. Keep your dog out of the wet weather and the wind by building a shelter that keeps them dry and gives them room.

There are many positives associated with owning a dog. It is best, however, when you are knowledgeable about dogs before you take one in. Thanks to the knowledge found here, you should be more informed on dogs. Use the tips given so you can enjoy all your time with your canine friend.
