By Jack Wall  Posted on March 8, 2017 In Pet Advice

Taking the time to train your dog is one of the most important things you can do for him. Training your dog is something that will be repaid to you over the future years because you will have a happy and healthy dog who respects your family and listens to you when necessary. The article will teach you more about the necessity of training for your dog.

Make sure that you set a calm tone whenever you set foot in a room where your dog is. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. To help your dog learn this behavior, ignore him when you enter the room. after you have been in there a few minutes, acknowledge him.

Make sure that you use control to reward your dog’s good training behavior. Give your dog a treat after they properly respond to your commands, but only if they are nice and calm. While you may be overjoyed with headway you are making, showing excitement causes the dog to become excited and makes you lose control. Stay calm and bestow rewards calmly too.

Include plenty of physical activity in your dog’s training routine. Dogs require mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Bored dogs are harder to train. Dogs are more inclined to obey when they are regularly taken out for exercise and happily accepted as a member of your family. You and your dog can run or walk together daily.

To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. This will give you the opportunity to understand when your dog needs to go to the bathroom. When a dog has a schedule, they also learn the valuable skill of “holding it” until you take him for his next scheduled trip outside.

The first step in training a puppy is to make sure he knows his name. Using his name frequently will teach him to respond when called. This is the first set of commands you should teach your new puppy. Make sure to spend time with your dog in order for him to learn and trust you. This will make him easier to train later.

Call your pooch by his name to keep his attention focused on you. Over time and repetition, the dog will begin to understand their name and that they are being spoken to. Make the name simple and easy for the puppy to recognize.

Don’t give a puppy too much information and training at once, or you’ll wear him out. Keep your training sessions short and sweet, this will help your puppy be more focused. If you push too hard, your puppy will remember it as a negative experience, and the next time you work to train him, it will be far more difficult.

As previously stated, dog training can be a wise investment. An untrained, misbehaving dog can chew your furniture, scare the neighbors and stress your family. Take the tips in this piece to heart, and you will be equipped to do the right thing and teach your dog how to be a valued member of the family.
