Teach Your Dog To Be The Best He Can Be

By Jack Wall  Posted on May 10, 2017 In Pet Advice Tagged canine training, dog understands

People who know dogs know that canine training is essential. Socializing and training your dog will teach proper obedience and keep your dog happy and safe. These tips will help you get started or give you a better idea of what training a dog is like.

When you correct your dog verbally, try making those corrections short and straight to the point. Do not go on and on about how bad the dog is behaving. Be firm and get them to do your bidding. It is also important to have good volume to your commands so that your dog understands that you are serious.

Generous rewards are a key part of training. Treats are great to give your dog when he does something good, but timing is very important when doing so. Dogs won’t know why they’re being rewarded if you’re not consistent.

Good behavior means rewards! Reward them only when your dog is calm after it performs a trick. Don’t let your own excitement get your dog excited or they will lose focus. Stay calm, have them be calm, and reward them for appropriate behavior.

Give your puppy something it can chew to help it lessen teething pains, like a toy or a piece of rope. Keep any items you treasure out of reach of your puppy while it is teething. Then, give it something that it is allowed to chew on if it likes. A wet frozen washcloth is great for a puppy, who has teething pain, to chew on.

Have verbal cues so that your pet will know exactly when they complete a command correctly. A word like “yes” can be an effective bridge between the time that the dog exhibits the behavior and the time that they receive the reward.

Keep your dog up to date with canine training, in order to keep him or her compliant with an established set of rules. Often dog owners will stop enforcing the rules that their dog learned in their training courses. However, pets are ruled by habits, structure and routine in much that same way that humans are. Therefore it is very important to maintain a good set of rules for your dog.

Keep treats on hand to reward your pet for doing good. First, have your pet to lay down. Then, put a treat close to the floor near the side of the dog’s head, and gradually raise it over its head to the opposite side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. When he rolls over, you should say “roll over,” and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. It will take some work, but keep on trying!

You should keep doggy treats handy for rewarding your dog. You want them to know they did the right thing. This is the best way to ensure that the dog understands the difference between right and wrong.

Hopefully these tips will have helped you along your way to enjoy your pet. Training your dog properly will mean the difference between a pleasant dog owner experience and a negative one. Regardless of if you decide to train your dog on your own or use a professional, it is key that you do train your dog to ensure a happy union with your dog.
