Should You Get A Cat? Questions To Ask Yourself

If your cat isn’t taking a nap, it needs a way to stay busy. If left unchecked, cats tend to climb on furniture and scratch your belongings. You have to learn all you can about cats to keep them busy. This article includes lots of information about cats and how to keep them occupied.

Cats often view small spaces as a fun challenge. They can get caught or stuck if they happen to be wearing a collar. A breakaway collar is a good option since it will break if your cat pulls on it. This can help to save a couple of your cat’s nine lives.

Part of caring for your cat is taking it to regular veterinarian checkups. A yearly visit for a regular check-up is important, with more frequent visits for shots as required. If there are more pressing health problems, take your cat to the vet right away.

You should not use products designed for other animals. Some can be quite dangerous, and even deadly, when used on a cat. Flea products for dogs are one of the worst products to give a cat. Flea products meant for dogs can seriously harm or kill a cat. You need to separate your pets when you treat them for fleas.

The claws of a cat can really destroy parts of your house and furniture. If you find your cat shredding your furniture, consider purchasing a scratching post or cat tower. Encourage them to scratch that instead. It may take some time, but it should eventually work.

Children usually take well to cats, but if you have a small child, you may need to provide some instruction. Teach your kid how to properly handle a cat. Show them how to gently pick kitty up and what kinds of activities are appropriate. Keep in mind that a cat’s bones are much more fragile than a dog’s.

Put your cat’s food on a tablecloth. Often, a cat will remove food from his bowl to eat on the side. This may make a big mess that you need to clean up. You can get a pet mat or use a piece of old fabric to put under it for easy cleanup.

Unlike most humans, cats love heights. Your cat will be truly happy if you provide a place for him to view his surroundings. If a cat tree is not in your future, providing a stable shelving unit with no small items on it will do very well. The cat will especially enjoy it if you put a blanket on top.

Acclimate your cat to its carrier. You cannot train a cat the same way you train a dog because they react differently to punishment. They are much better with encouragement. Take their favorite blanket and place it within the carrier. Then leave the carrier with the door ajar in a frequented spot. In time, the cat will head inside and be happy. Transporting the carrier with your cat inside makes your next trip out much easier.

Toys are a great way for a cat to release a lot of their pent up energy. Not only will it help them release that energy, it will keep them away from your valuable furnishings. You should apply the tips you just read and do more research on the different things you can use to take care of your cat.
