Cats are a fine domestic animal with great abilities and traits. They are also very common household members across the world, and can be found in houses and on the busy streets of almost every major city. It can pose quite the challenge and be difficult at first when they are brought indoors. These smart, agile, powerful creatures can be a little hardheaded and require advanced tactics.

Drape cords should be kept distant from cats. Do not let your cat play with these. If the cords are in loops and the cat jumps into them or plays with them, they could possibly get them caught around their neck. This could even choke them to death. Pin and hide drape cords to avoid this.

Cats are curious by nature, which can end up getting them into trouble. If they have a collar on, this might prove to be a safety risk if they happen to get stuck. A breakaway collar is a good option since it will break if your cat pulls on it. Purchasing one could be the difference between whether your cat lives or dies when he gets stuck.

You should take your cat to the vet on a regular basis to maintain optimum health. Cats need routine annual check-ups and possibly additional ones as well for vaccinations. If you notice that your cat appears to be experiencing some sort of illness or injury, do not delay a trip to the vet.

Prevent your cat from chewing on electrical cords by spraying bitter apple on them. Cats who love to chew need to be kept away from cords. Tuck loose cords into old toilet paper or paper towel rolls. Cats are drawn to wires and cords, so you should keep them out of sight and out of mind if they are not being used.

Being nocturnal is quite normal for cats. This means nighttime is an active time for your cat. Keep your bedroom door shut if your cats make too much noise at night. They should stay away from you at night and then they will not be able to jump on your feet.

The cat’s litter box should be placed in the right spot. Try to keep it away from areas of household traffic and away from your cat’s eating areas. Additionally, don’t make the mistake of putting it in a poorly-ventilated area, or the smell will become overpowering. Your cat is certain to appreciate a litter box that is put into a good location.

Cats love to be clean. Long-haired cats often develop hairballs. Buy your cat specialized food to prevent this problem. Some foods contain extra oils and nutrients, specifically designed to prevent or diminish hairball concerns.

It’s often cheaper to buy medicine for your cat on the Internet instead of through your vet. When an emergency strikes, however, you may not have the option of buying medications on the Internet. But, if you’re having to buy pet medication regularly, you will be able to save up to half the price if you buy online.

Though cats make great pets for kids, younger kids may be too rough with them. Teach your kids the right way to hold a cat. Show them what activities are appropriate and how to pick them up. Feline bones are weaker than those of many other pets, so they must be handled with care.

You can outsmart your cat when you keep the tips you read here close by. Cats will learn some basic things, like where they’re allowed or not allowed to be. While dogs might be easier to train, cats are very respectable animals that stay well-trained and well-mannered.
