Professional Guidance And Advice For Training Your Dog

Some dogs seem to be naturally obedient, but most need good, consistent guidance in order to function appropriately in a human world. Implement the tips and tricks in this article to help you train your dog.

Make sure to let your pet know a crate is their home initially. You should put their food in the crate when they eat, but leave the door open. This will let them associate a positive with being in the crate.

Set a schedule and routine for feeding your dog from the very beginning of your relationship. Feed your dog at the same times every day, so that he knows what to expect. Before long, your dog will complete its meal before the time comes for you to take the dish away.

You can train a pooch to roll over fairly quickly if you have some treats to hand out. You can have your dog sit or roll over. Then, use the treat to draw his head from one side to the other. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. As he is rolling over say, “roll over” and praise them immediately when they do. It will take some work, but keep on trying!

Anytime your dog does something good, make sure you reward him. You want your pet to know that you are pleased with his behavior. You will ensure that your dog knows how to tell right from wrong if you do this.

Your dog will be easier to train if you are careful to avoid letting him learn bad habits to begin with. Dogs find it much harder to break existing bad habits than to learn new, positive ones. For example, if you are adamant about your dog not being a beggar, then never make any exceptions to handing him food from your table.

When house training your new puppy, accidents are likely to happen from time to time. Clean accidents up immediately to assist in your training efforts. Smells from urine and feces can linger in a carpet and attract your pet to return to the same spot for elimination. Buy a product specially designed to neutralize odors.

The best way to train your dog is to use different tones of voices. Each type of command should use a different type of tone. Commands call for firmness; corrections need a louder volume and praise should be in your natural tone.

You should always praise your dog for his good behavior while you are training him. Get excited, smile, and give treats to help your dog relate the good behavior to something positive. Do not reward unwanted behavior.

Keep training sessions short for best results. Spend about 15 minutes on a certain task with your dog. After each session, you should play with your dog, reward and praise it.

Training is not a time for you to punish your dog. Your training efforts should be to prevent bad behavior. Teach your dog what constitutes inappropriate behavior, and what is an acceptable behavior. A very big part of training is establishing a good working relationship with your dog.

Do not panic if your dog has a bad attitude right now. You can train most dogs if you use proper method and some perseverance. Implement the advice you’ve read here, and your dog will be well-behaved in no time.
