Cats are interesting creatures that are great pets. Your cat deserves a happy and healthy life and it is up to you to provide it. Use the tips that you’re about to read to help you provide the best care.

Remove the drape cords from visibility when a cat is in the house. Cats should not be allowed to play with these cords, as they can get parts of their body stuck in the cord loops. This could seriously injure or even kill them. To prevent this from happening, keep any drape cords pinned away from any eyes.

Local rescue organizations are a great place to look for a new pet cat. Shelters are filled with beautiful cats, and the fee for adoption will basically cover the needed vet care. When you bring home a shelter cat, you will be saving its life and you will be doing your part to help out.

If you have a female cat it is important to have her spayed once she becomes old enough. This is true even if you think your cat is indoors only. One escape can lead to a lot of small kittens around! Unless you want the hassle of getting rid of kittens, spaying is the best option for your cat.

Use bitter apple on your electric cords to keep your kitty away from them. Cat can sometimes chew on cords, and they should be covered to prevent this. The tube from a used-up roll of paper towels makes an excellent shield for loose cords. Electronics with thin cords must be put out of reach when they aren’t being used.

Your home furnishings can fall victim to your cat’s sharp claws. If your cat is ripping up and shredding your home, invest in a kitty tower or scratching post. It is much better if your cat uses his claws on that, rather than your furniture. Be patient, it might take some time for your cat to learn to use the post or tower.

Cats will often devote most of their time to grooming. If the cats hair is too long, this is what causes hairballs. Special food can help. Certain cat foods are made just for decreasing hairballs, benefiting both your cat and yourself.

If you’re thinking about raising an outdoor cat, you should strongly reconsider. It might not be safe for your cat to go outdoors. Your cat can pick up fleas, or worse. It could be injured via a vehicle or another animal. Let your cat go out in your backyard and play on your lawn.

Do you happen to own both a dog and a cat? Dogs love to eat cat food! You should create a feeding space for the cat that is much too high for a dog to get to. This will also prevent squabbles between them.

As you are no doubt aware, cats can be wonderful pets. To make sure your cat stays happy and healthy, you need to learn all you can about caring for them peoperly. Keep this information handy, so that you can refer back to it from time to time. Your cat is certain to appreciate the time you spent learning on caring for it.
