Maximize The Time Spent Training Your Dog

By Jack Wall  Posted on July 5, 2016 In Pet Advice Tagged training session

A lot of people want to train their dogs but they think it’s too difficult. This is definitely because they do not know how. Training a dog is easy once you broaden your knowledge and understanding of canines. The following article will help you develop successful strategies.

Timing is everything in puppy training. While you want to devote a good amount of time to it, you do not want to go too far. Begin with a training session that lasts a few minutes, and do it for a bit longer every day. Note how far into the training session your dog loses his attention span. That’s the time to quit.

Ensure that your dog eats well. A poor diet is bad for your dog on several levels. Not only does it affect the dog’s health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. By making small changes to your dog’s diet, you can alter their receptiveness to the training.

Encourage your dog to be as active as possible. Just like humans, dogs can become bored easily. Dogs with no enthusiasm will be harder to train than active dogs. A dog that is happy, and gets the attention that they crave, will be a better behaved and attentive dog. Go on runs or long walks together.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to do a lot of repetition in order to each your dog new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Be patient and continue using a command until your dog learns it.

Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. You want to teach your pooch that good behavior is beneficial. This is a good way to make your dog know the difference between a good and bad thing.

Try to get your dog on a regular feeding schedule. This gives you important forehand knowledge to prevent accidents and your dog an association of cause and effect to follow. This will also teach your dog “hold it” until her next trip outside.

As you train the dog, patience is essential. Patience is the best way to keep your dog from becoming confused and for you to remain calm. Your dog wants to make you happy, but sometimes it just does not understand you.

Begin your training regimen with an easy task for your dog. Smaller, more easily learned behaviors are more likely to produce timely successes and a solid foundation for future training efforts. This ensures your outcome is positive.

Use positive reinforcement when you are training your dog. If you are happy with your dog, give him pets, happy words and the occasional treat. Don’t ever hit your dog or yell at them! This is not a particularly effective form of training. Instead, show your dog what you expect and reward his obedience.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you’ll need to be firm. Avoid yelling at your dog. It is important to be firm when issuing a reprimand and someone who adores them otherwise. This way, you can have a great relationship with the dog.

Accidents will happen when a puppy is being potty trained. Make sure to clean up accidents as soon as they happen. Urine and feces scents can attack to the fibers of your carpet, which will lead to your dog repeatedly using the bathroom in that spot. Look into different cleaners, especially enzyme cleaners, available at any pet store.

Hopefully with the knowledge you just acquired about training your dog, you’re feeling more confident with ways you can do just that. Use these tips and continue learning as you embark on your lifelong journey of discovery with your dog.
