Does a cat reside in your home? If you are, you know how special cats can be. A cat like any pet really needs care and love. However, you are more than capable of meeting your cat’s needs. Read this article for some great ideas on how to take care of your cat.

If you have drape cords in your home, keep them away from your cats. The cats will start playing with the cords and they can easily wrap around their necks. This may harm or kill them. To stop this from happening, pin your drapes and hide them out of sight.

You should make sure your cat stays groomed properly. Cats must be brushed and groomed frequently. If you brush cats on a regular basis, it will keep their coats clean and attractive. It will also cut down on shedding and hairballs. A cat that is well-groomed is one that looks the best at home.

Older cats will appreciate a heated bed; you can use a heated tile to create one! You can heat a terracotta tile in the oven at 200 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Use an old towel to wrap around it, then place it beneath the cat’s blanket or bed. If possible, re-heat several times throughout the night.

You shouldn’t ever use products designed to be used on dogs on your cat. Cats often have negative reactions to dog products. Be very careful with the flea products you use. Your cat can die if you use a dog flea product on it. You need to separate your pets when you treat them for fleas.

If you have an outdoor cat, be sure he or she has a tagged collar. Cats can travel far, and a tag will help you find the cat easier if they get lost. At the very least, you should include your contact info and the name of your cat on the tag.

Before you consider buying a kitten for your children, make sure clear boundaries are set before you bring the kitten home. Explain where the cat is and isn’t allowed. If you’re raising an indoor cat, inform your kids that the cat can’t go outside. Your children will be able to understand the rules more easily if they know them ahead of time.

Understand that cats enjoy being elevated. Elevate your cat so that it can scan the area. If a cat tree is not in your future, providing a stable shelving unit with no small items on it will do very well. You can even lay down a blanket to give your kitty some comfort.

You should brush your cat on a regular basis. This will help stimulate blood flow. As an added bonus, it cuts down on loose fur. This prevents hairballs, which can cause choking, and builds up in the cat’s stomach from self grooming.

You love your cat and want to care for them properly. This article gives you the techniques necessary to do so. Use the above tips to be sure your cat lives a happy, healthy life. When you show your cat you love it, it will return the love.
