Felines are a lot of fun, so much fun that you can really lose track of the day playing with them. To distract them from you for awhile, give them a new game or toy. If you do not have a cat, you should consider adopting one. They really don’t cost a lot of money. The following article will give you some great ideas that both you and your cat will love.

Cats really enjoy squeezing into any and all small spaces. A collar can become a liability if your cat is especially adventurous. Breakaway collars are made to come off if tugged on vigorously. This will help you save your cat’s life.

You can keep your cat away from electrical cords by spraying them with some bitter apple. You can also cover your cords under a rug or tape them to walls. You can take loose cords, bundle them up, and stick them inside the tube from an old roll of paper towels. Store electronics when they are not in use rather than leaving them plugged in.

Never let your cat experience frequent boredom. Cats require physical activity. Unfortunately, many owners do not realize this important part of ownership. Bored cats will quickly wreck your home or become obese. Give them lots of space for exercise and plenty of toys they can play with. Give them a cat tree to play with.

When you get a kitten for kids, you have to set up a few rules first. Make sure your children know where in the house the cat is permitted to be. If you plan to raise an indoor cat, let your children know that the cat cannot go outside. Clearly explaining the rules will limit future mishaps.

Cats like to be high up to see the surrounding area. Make sure your cat has a safe place to play. If you can’t afford a cat tree, give the cat an empty shelf of his own. Putting a soft cat bed on the shelf can help to add a little comfort.

You should talk to other pet owners if you have an issue with yours. You can often get great advice from friends and family. There are a number of message boards for cat owners on the Internet, or you can go to your vet with problems.

It would be a good idea for your cat to get used to a pet carrier. Cats are not as responsive to punishment as dogs are. They need positive reinforcement. Take their favorite blanket and place it within the carrier. Then leave the carrier with the door ajar in a frequented spot. Your cat will want to inspect the carrier and probably enjoy hiding inside. In the future, your cat will not get scared when you put him in the carrier.

You are going to be having a great time with your cat now that you’ve read the tips here. While each cat responds differently to food, toys, and care, you can be sure that your efforts will not go unappreciated. A cat that’s happy and healthy is going to live longer and be more active during his lifespan.
