It Is Important To Teach Your Dog The Difference Between Right And Wrong

By Jack Wall  Posted on July 12, 2017 In Pet Advice Tagged excess energy

Your dog is part of your family, so it is okay to search for friendly ways to train him or her. The piece that follows offers great training ideas for any dog owner. Education creates success, so educating yourself about how you should train your dog is an important first step.

Make sure that your dog stays awake and active. Boredom often befalls an inactive dog, or he may find himself in a “mutt rut” with a dull and listless routine. Dogs that are bored are not easy to train. Keeping your dog exercised and happy will help them pay attention more due to releasing all excess energy that often distracts them from your commands. A long walk or a brisk run are great ways to get rid of some of your dog’s excess energy.

With patience and a handful of tasty treats, you can easily teach your pet to roll over. First, have the dog lay down. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog’s head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. Whenever your dog does actually roll over, say “roll over” out loud. Repeating this over time forms a mental association in your dog’s mind that eventually causes him to roll over on command. Be patient if they don’t get it right away; they’ll get it soon enough!

By reading this article, you have taken the first step in training your furry friend. Choosing to follow some of the advice and tips in this article, will not only make you a better trainer, but a better listener, who can understand the needs of your dog. A little advice goes a long way!
