Helpful Advice On How To Properly Train Your Dog

By Jack Wall  Posted on November 22, 2016 In Pet Advice

Training your dog is a learning process for you as well. This is because, the dog’s owner must first be able to learn the proper way to train an animal. Dog owners do not possess an innate knowledge of training your dog. Learning and experience are required. The information in this article should be helpful.

When you correct your dog verbally, those corrections should be short and focused on the behavior. Do not rant on at length to your dog telling them how they were bad. Just say no and direct them on what it is you desire for them to do. You should also be certain that your voice is loud enough to get their attention, but also conveys seriousness.

Make sure your dog is up and active often. Dogs can easily become bored. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. When your dog gets regular exercise, he will be much happier and will pay attention more easily. Go on extended walks or runs with your dog on a regular basis.

A dog has an inquiring mind and will look at one thing for quite a while until its attention is broken. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

It is important to have a consistent training method when crate training young puppies. If you remove the pup from the crate, see to it that he has the means to go potty. Eventually, they will wait until it’s the right time to go to the bathroom.

As you begin training your dog, create a verbal cue that allows your pet to understand the exact moment that they correctly complete your command. If you do not have a treat you can reward your dog with, pet it and talk to it in a soft voice until you find a treat.

Decide on a specific command phrase for your pup during house training. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.

Have a treat prepared for rewarding your dog when they follow a command properly. It is important for your pet to understand that you have certain expectations, what those expectations are, and that he will be rewarded for complying. This is a great way to make certain the dog grasps what is right and what is wrong.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.
