From Misbehaved To Trained: Tips For Training Your Dog

By Jack Wall  Posted on November 13, 2016 In Pet Advice Tagged crate training

There are many reasons people want their dogs to be trained. Dogs can be trained to hunt or to protect, and they can also be trained to do tricks for enjoyment. Dogs are usually very eager to please their masters. This willingness also makes dogs an ideal family pet. Use the following tips to get the most out of your puppy training efforts with your pet.

If you are crate training your dog, you need to show them that this is where they will sleep. Leave food near or inside the crate and leave the door open. This will allow your dog to have a positive association with the crate.

Crate training is very beneficial, but there can be difficulties that the following tips can help with. If they don’t want to go in the crate, try luring them in with a treat or chew bone. The dog will smell the bone and want to go racing into the crate to eat it. After your dog goes into the crate, give positive reinforcement to increase the chance that he will go into the crate again.

Consider things from your dog’s perspective. You can easily become frustrated with your pet if they do not learn the basics quickly or not at all. Try to think the way your dog does. Imagining things as they see things may give you a different perspective in training them.

Dogs have the uncanny ability to have single-minded focus when something catches their attention. With enough training, you will have your dog focusing solely on your signals.

Are you house training your dog? If so, then understand that the food and water they consume must come out at some point. Feed your puppy three times regularly each day. Doing so helps you to learn your puppy’s schedule.

A consistent schedule of feeding and potty-time is very important when house training your dog. Then you will be aware when your dog needs to go outside to use the bathroom. A regular schedule will also give your dog a chance to learn how to exercise self-control, as he will know that a trip outside is eminent.

As previously stated, dogs are trained for many reasons. Nothing pleases a dog more than when he pleases you, and a well-trained dog is a delight to be around. It is hoped that you have found some helpful tips in this article that will aid your efforts to train your pooch.
