There are few pets as rewarding to own as a cat. Not only will they keep you entertained, they also can hunt for pests like rodents that may be terrorizing your home. To learn more about properly caring for your cat, keep reading.

Local rescue organizations are a great place to look for a new pet cat. Shelters are filled with beautiful cats, and the fee for adoption will basically cover the needed vet care. When you bring home a shelter cat, you will be saving its life and you will be doing your part to help out.

Keep your older cat comfortable by placing a heated tile underneath its bed. Just get a tile and heat it up in the oven for a while to place under the cat’s bed. Keep the temperature of the oven at 200 degrees. Put it inside an old towel, then place it beneath the cat’s bed. Change it every couple of hours if desired.

A cat’s claws can cause lots of damage to your home. If your couch is starting to look like it’s been put through a shredder, it’s time to invest in a nice scratching post or cat tower. Teach them to scratch on it instead of your belongings. It may take some time and some corrections, but it can usually eliminate the problem.

Your cat needs to be shown lots of love. They want warm companionship since that’s what they provide to you. Cats need a social life with people just like you do with other people. A cat can feel that he is a valuable, cherished part of their household.

When your cat accompanies you on a trip, remember to consider the health of their ears. You may like music loud and booming, but a cat will prefer lower volumes as their ears are more sensitive. Therefore, try to turn down your music or keep if off altogether so your cat has a better trip.

Cats are a great way to get rid of rodents, and they also make excellent pets. Cats have similar instincts to them, but they have many benefits that dogs don’t. It’s easy to see why so many people have fallen for the company of cats.
