Look After Your Pets

Cats can make great pets! These cats are abandoned and make up almost half of the whole cat population. Many businesses lose customers and money because of these cats.

Cats like sneaking into small spaces. If you keep a collar on your pet, getting stuck in one of these spaces can be very dangerous. A breakaway collar is a good option since it will break if your cat pulls on it. This can help to save a couple of your cat’s nine lives.

It can be hard to make your cat stay off the counter. Cats like heights and like to see everything happening around them. One good way to beat this problem is by giving your kitty some safe, high perches throughout the house. An excellent tool for preventing your cat from jumping on the counter is a cat tower that is in the kitchen.

Give your cat lots of attention and love. Cats need companionship as much as we do. Cats need social time with the family just like people do so that they know that they are valued. Your cat wants to be as much a member of the family as anyone else.

While usually cats make great pets for kids, younger kids may be too rough with them. Spend time instructing your children on cat care. Teach them which activities are good and how to properly pick your cat up. Cats don’t have strong bones like dogs do, so they need to be treated gently.

Make sure your kids know the rules before kitty comes home. Let your children know what rooms you will allow the cat to go into. If your have an indoor-only cat, be sure the kids understand that the cat is not to go outside. If you make the rules ahead of time, you can be sure your kids understand them.

If you want to let your cat outside, think again. This can be very unsafe for your cat. Your cat could get fleas or even worse parasites. Your cat could be injured by other animals, people and vehicles. If the cat must go outside, set aside a small part of the backyard or front lawn as a place where they can go.

Cats enjoy being in high places. Allow them the space they need to feel safe while checking their world out. You should install a cat tree or allow your cat to climb on some shelves. You can also add a small bed or blanket at the top.

Take steps to take care of your cat properly so that they are healthy and not contributing to the overpopulation issue. Learn as much as you can about proper pet care and incorporate it into your life. Be wary handling or trying to remove feral cats from your yard. You could even end up bonding with one of the feral cats.
