You should realize that if you train your dog well, you will enjoy having them as part of the family more. Obedient dogs can make you completely satisfied with owning a dog. Keep reading to learn how you can have a great relationship with your best canine friend.

Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. It is okay to have play time, but when you enter a room your dog should be calm. Do not acknowledge his presence when you enter, so the atmosphere remains controlled until you decide when his play time begins.

The first step of training your pooch should be to assert your control. The dog will have little respect for you and it won’t obey if you do not show that you are the one in charge. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Afterward, bring the treat above the dogs head and follow over to their other side. He should then roll over while following the treat. While he rolls, say “roll over” and repeat this action until he is able to roll over with only the command. It will take some work, but keep on trying!

Make sure your dog is comfortable and compliant with his leash. This will help to keep both of you safe while taking walks.

Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Call him by name frequently, and teach him to come when called. Your puppy’s name should be one of its first words learned. Spend a lot of time with your new puppy, so he will learn how to gain trust in you. This way he or she will be more open to some advanced training.

The first step in leash training a young puppy is to get him or her used to the collar during play. It is imperative that the puppy become comfortable with his collar. This will allow for using a leash correctly and allow for ID tags for the pup should it wander.

A spray bottle filled with water can be an invaluable training tool when your dog engages in bad behavior like barking, biting or chewing. Then your dog learns some things aren’t ok. In short order, the dog is sure to cease such behavior, and assume the role of fun, yet obedient animal.

You need to teach your dog what is right and what is wrong. Your entire household will need to be on the same page when it comes to boundaries. These inconsistencies can cause significant setbacks.

Working on your pet’s recall is important. He should always come when called. Teach your dog to come, even when there are distractions. Recall can be lifesaving, so make sure your dog learns this skill above all else.

Many times people expect that training their puppy will be much more difficult and stressful that it actually is. By using the above tips and improving our behavior as well, a dog’s behavior can drastically improve.
