Do You Want A Dog? Follow This Advice

Owning a dog can be quite joyful. If you want to have fun with your pet, there is some basic advice that you need to follow. This article has some great tips for taking better care of your dog.

Avoid kisses and stick with hugs. A dog has a very filthy mouth. They eat garbage or poop and even sniff other dog’s butts. It saying that the dog’s mouth is much cleaner than a human’s is folklore. This is not true, at all!

Take your dog to the vet at least one time a year for checkups. Your dog can’t speak to tell you he’s in pain. Regular checkups will help you find these issues prior to them becoming a serious problem.

When you take your dog on vacation with you, get a snapshot of them for your phone. If the worst happens and your pet gets lost, you have a current picture that you can show others or use to make “lost” posters.

Practice training your dog in your house or yard. Training a dog in a very populated area is never a good idea. Your dog could become distracted and will be tougher to teach.

Never take your dog outside your yard without a leash. Wild animals can get his attention and cause him to run out into the street, or a provocation could startle him and cause unpleasantness with other dogs or people. You will be responsible for your dog’s actions and safety.

If you’re training your dog, don’t just use verbal commands. Try hand signals as well. When provided with signals of this type, dogs tend to pick things up faster. Try each way to see what works well with your dog.

If your dog behaves properly, be sure it is praised and given affection. Always make sure your dog knows when they perform a behavior you wish to see repeated. It teaches the dog that he gets praised when he does what you’d like him to do.

There is a wealth of information available to help you to become a fantastic dog owner. There is much more than just selecting a dog with a cute appearance. A serious degree of responsibility is demanded. Use the information obtained here to enjoy your pet more and make him feel like part of the family.
