Confused By Dog Training? Get Help Here!

Your dog wants to please you with his behavior, but he needs help figuring out what that behavior is. Your dog has the potential to be everything you want it to be, you just have to follow the right steps. Dogs are inborn to learn training, but need the help of their owner.

Consider things from your dog’s perspective. Sometimes, training will get frustrating, but you will need to have patience. Try putting thinking like your dog would, rather than quitting. Your dog might not be making the connection between the order and the behavior you expect from them because you have not repeated the exercise enough times.

Do not tie up several dogs in close proximity to each other. If there chains become entangled with one another it could lead to an injury. Situations like this can cause dogs of various sizes to cause fatal injuries if not properly monitored. Always err on the side of caution.

Be careful not to reward bad behaviors without realizing it. This means denying your dog treats and praise whenever it misbehaves. For instance, do not pet the dog lovingly if it jumps on you the minute you arrive home if this is something you are attempting to cure.

Commanding control is the very first step in training your dog. Your dog will not respect or obey you, unless you let him know that you are the boss. Always walk in front of the dog when you go on walks, because this is the position to show leadership.

To strengthen your training efforts, you can use a designated verbal command to help your animal know what your expectations are and when they have been fulfilled. It’s faster to tell your dog “yes” than it is to find and give it a treat.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. As you do this, you give the dog an opportunity to acclimate to your scent and become used to your presence. Once a dog is used to your scent, it will trust you and obey your orders.

Pay attention to the length of your training your dog sessions. Dogs can only handle a short amount of training at a time, so don’t overdo it. Do not spend more than 10 minutes on each session.

It’s essential that you understand that you must be firm with your dog when you are in training mode. This does not mean you should continually admonish your dog. Balance firmness with love for best results. This way, you can have a great relationship with the dog.

Dogs need to be taught the right habits as soon as they are brought to your home. It is far simpler to teach a dog to do something the right way than to break bad habits. Don’t give the dog food from the table if you don’t want him to beg for food later.

Once you have worked with your dog and taught him what you want him to know, you just need to practice these skills. The dog usually will like pleasing its owner as equally as its owner will enjoy watching the dog respond to the training he is giving.
